What is your name and give us a little background on yourself. My name is Alex "D" Sanchez. I'm 18 and I currently live in North Carolina. I Play Roaming soldier for the CVG TF2 team. I work full time at Lowes Home Improvement. Gaming is something I do in my off time since usually when I get off work its too late to actually do anything. lol. Why did u choose Team Fortress 2 as your game of choice? TF2 was my first FPS I played on the computer. The only other gaming I did was maybe a bit of COD on the PS3 with my friend a few times a week. One of the people I went to church with actually played TF2 competitively for Treason back in s5 I think it was. He go me hooked up with a few IM players and they helped me pick up this game pretty fast. Ive always like the whole "team work pays off" kind of games. As with COD on console you can singlehandedly rape an entire team and carry yours to victory. I didn't find much skill in it, no offense to you COD guys though. lol. How long have you been playing TF2 at a competitive level? Probably a little over a year and a half now. I only played TF2 at a pub level for 2 weeks then I got right into competitive TF2. How long have you been playing video games and what were some of those games? Woo, ive been playing console games since I was 8 or 9 maybe? I started out on the Nintendo 64. I played James Bond and a little of Mario cart at my friend Sergio's house since at the time I didn't own any type of console. The first console I owned was a Sega Dreamcast. I played Sonic the hedgehog, James Bond, Street Fighter and some Tank game I can't remember the name of. I wasn't too much into gaming until the release of the PlayStation 3 which my uncle had bought me when it first came out. the idea of 720P gaming appealed to me. I still play a little Black ops and Motorstorm as well as Gran tourismo games. Is there anything special that you do before you have a big match (like a pregame ritual)? I actually prefer to come into the game without playing much before hand. I find that I use the first round to warm up as well as adapt to the opposing team starts. So my mind isn't set on just killing everything like I would be playing in a Pub or DM beforehand. Tell us a little about your team and where your roster derived from. Well originally it was Beau "fleamarket", Me, Nic "Stoper", Jeff "shock", Brandon "dflame" and Jeremy "Null". Beau and Jeremy had to later leave the roster due to personal reasons. Steven "Toast" and Kamurell "KTB" where added to the roster after. Our lineup right now is me and Kamurell on soldier, Nic on Demoman, Jeff and Brandon on scout and Steven on Medic. I was actually asked to join this team by Beau but I didn’t really know any of the guys. Ive only ever heard of Brandon and Kamurell in lobbies. So it was a new experience that ive come to enjoy. What were your chances going into ESEA as a new "team", but having experienced players? chances where ok, but like most of TF2 there's a lot of new teams in ESEA every season. This Nic's very first season of anything competitive in TF2 but he already fast improving and keeping up nice. For the rest of us were about spread out between 1-3 seasons. How do u think you have faired against the matchups you had during the season to date? We've faired pretty well so far. We have 2 forfeit wins but we don’t think those teams would have given us any hassle anyways. The real challenge is actually this week against New Map Thugz on warmfront. So were all excited for that match. Looking back, as well as forward, is there anything you would like to improve on or see there is something you need to work at to further your team's abilities? The main this me as well as my team mates need to work on now is just team chemistry. Everyone on the team has a good grasp of the game and our DM is our strong point right now. if we get that sorted out we'll definitely be a top contender in the next season of ESEA. Do you forsee yourself placing for this season's ESEA LAN and what is your outlook on that possibility? How are you preparing throughout the season for this opportunity? Well lan for TF2 is a bit different. Given the small community, only TF2 Invite gets the play at ESEA lan. Even then only the top 3 teams go, out of maybe 6 or 7 teams in Invite overall. Is there anything else that you would like to say or someone you would like to give a shoutout to? Just want to give a shoutout to my team and all of CVG that show your support to us. as well as Jeff, "we kick ass but don't takes names" The CoD scene made some noise this past weekend as the European Gaming League (EGL) held their fifth Call of Duty LAN at the Norbreck Castle Hotel in Blackpool, England. The turnout was massive making this the largest CoD LAN to date and Convergence Gaming attended in full force. CVG’s newest Call of Duty acquisition leaves us with representation in the European scene as well as EGL5 under the roster Convergence.EU (Formerly WCYD). Lead by Captain "Shizje” the roster is filled out by "Fluff”, "CooKie”, and "Jordan”. The event itself started off great with a smooth production and stream, with a beginning just as stable for Convergence.EU, who took out both BETTAMAX and Imperial.Black 2-0, with both being featured on EGL’s main stream. Right out of the gate Convergence demolished the competition with inspiring play and impeccable teamwork. Footage from these exciting games can be found here. Soon after, their promising start would be halted by an unfortunate run in with No. 3 seeded Prophecy, who would go on to take 3rd in the tournament. To make matters worse Convergence.EU would run into Mythix, a top tournament contender, in the Losers bracket whose previous loss in Winners round 3 was a much covered upset in itself. "I’m not going to say we got smashed, because it was actually a close game. Although it might not look it [on the surface], it definitely was. Our team played very well, they just came out on top. It wasn’t easy playing off a loss, but, what can you do?” -Ryan "Shizje” Shafi All things considered Convergence.EU played solid games throughout the entire tournment and were able to demonstrate thier ability to preform as well as their team cohesion. Convergence Gaming is extremely excited of the future we have in the European Call of Duty Scene and hope this is just of the start of many great things to come with this promising Convergence.EU roster. Stay tuned for more information on impending stream/video content from this team as we will do our best to relay developments on this front to the community. Also be sure to check out this interview from our very own ‘cvgAstonish’ as he talks with ‘Shizzle’ about Convergence.EU’s experience and games at EGL5. 4
